The Eighth Army has been directed by CINCFE to attach a company of the heavy tank battalion of the First Cavalry Division to the 24th Division and move the company by water to Korea. (SECRET) (FECOM) NAVY h. The British frigate BLACK SWAN has joined the U.S. cruiser JUNEAU, together with other U.S. and British units of CTF 90, CTG 96.0 enroute to Pusan. i. U.S. Military Attache, Wellington, reports that the New Zealand frigates STUTPRA and PUKAKI have left Auckland for Hong Kong, with two more frigates available. AIR j. Considerable air activity in Suwon area, with six North Korean aircraft and four unidentified aircraft strafing Suwon airstrip and trains in vicinity. Also reported that four jet aircraft, light green in color with red star on fuselage, strafed Suwon airstrip. (Reported in Joint Daily Summary No. 5, paragraph 2 e, but not as jets.) New enemy tactics appear in use of low flying aircraft as decoys supported by high cover of fighters. Estimated strength North Korean aircraft at Pyongyang, 25 Yak-7B or Yak-9 and Il-10; at Yonpo, 50 Yak-7B or Yak-9 and Il-10; and Sinmak, 25 Yak-7B or Yak-9 and I1-10; at Pyongyang, 15 11-10; and, at Wonsan, 20 Yak-7B or Yak-9. (D/I-USAF) (SECRET) k. USAF B-29's hit Yonpo Airfield and airfields in vicinity of Pyongyang with good results. Other operations destroyed one La-7 and one Yak-9, twelve tanks, ammo dump, twenty trucks, and several naval craft. (D/I-USAF) (SECRET) 1. Planned USAF operations for 3 July (KT) include fighters and light bombers in support of U.S. and South Korean ground forces. Trans- port aircraft continuing airlift of U.S. troops and equipment to Pusan. 20th Air Force released from operations 3 July for maintenance and crew rest. The 7th Fleet aircraft on 3 July (KT) are to have exclusive use of area north of 38th parallel and northwest of line bearing 200 from vicinity of Kaesong. FEAF aircraft will not fly in that area.
