AIR
ks. No enemy air opposition was reported on 4 July KT. Flak
reported was meager to moderate.
1.
Fighters and light bombers attacked targets of opportunity
south of the 38th parallel, including a troop train, freight train, trucks and
other vehicles. A railroad trestle was destroyed near Inchang.
m. The maximum B-29 effort for 5 July includes attacks on rail-
road bridges at Pyongyang and Hamhung as primary targets, the railroad
bridge at Sinanju and Wonsan Airfield as secondary targets, and Chinnampo
port and the Wonsan oil refinery as last resort targets. B-26 aircraft
attack the airfields at Pyongyang and Sinmak. Light bombers and fighters
perform interdiction and provide cover and close support for US and South
Korean forces. The Japanese terminal for airlift operations has been
moved from Itazuke to Ashiya.
4. General: President Rhee arrived in Pusan "yesterday" (Comment:
apparently 3 July KT) by sea from Mokpo, according to U.S. Ambassador
Muccio, and wants to return to Taejon. Muccion reports there is little
evidence of government offices being set up in Taejon. Commodity prices
have risen somewhat in Taejon, where influx of refugees, is relatively
great. Elsewhere prices have risen little. (U.S. Amb. Korea) (SECRET)
