*1. Weather: Scattered high and middle clouds with bases above
14,000 feet in northern and central Korea. Visibility unrestricted except
along the southern coast during early morning hours. Forecast: Scat-
tered high clouds increasing, becoming overcast northern Korea during
afternoon hours. Visibility along coastal areas restricted, becoming 6
miles in haze during the early morning hours and unlimited by early
afternoon in all areas. (SECRET)
2. Soviet participation: Negative.
3. Operations:
ENEMY SITUATION
*a. North Korean forces were reported at 2100/10 (KT) as re-
grouping and assembling armor and infantry in the Chonan-Chinchon-
Umsong area, while slowly and steadily probing along the roads and trails
of the east coast. (FECOM) (SECRET)
*b. In the Chonan-Chinchon area, the North Korean 1st Division
is in contact with U.S. 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, at Chonui.

*C. Light attacks were made by the enemy on the U.S. 34th In-
fantry Regimental Combat Team, less the 3d Infantry Battalion, in the
vicinity of Kongju during the period from 2100/09 (KT) to 2100/10 (KT).

*d. FECOM reported at 0700/10 (EDT) that the fate of the 3d
Battalion, 34th Infantry, entrapped earlier in the vicinity of Chonan is
uncertain. (FECOM) (SECRET)
*e. The enemy 2d Division and elements of the 3d Division en-
countered stiff resistance from the South Korean Capitol and 2d Divisions
