SLONE
Another enemy unit opposed by 8th ROK Division is attempt-
ing to bridge Han River near Tanyang. The terrain in this area favors
the defense, but a successful penetration will allow the enemy to enter
the Yongju-Andong corridor leading south to the main North-South com-
munication line in the vicinity of Taegu. (FECOM) (SECRET)
d. East Coast
There have been no substantial changes in this area. The
potential threat remains the same however: an enemy thrust south of
Yongju in the rear of the 8th ROK Division. Reports indicate augmenta-
tion of enemy forces in this area. 1st North Korean Border Constabu-
lary Brigade earlier located in this area may now be up to division
strength. Tentative location of this element is in the vicinity of Kang-
nung. (FECOM) (SECRET)
e. Air Potential
The enemy's hit and run raids and the reported but uncon-
firmed appearance of jets indicate that the enemy is operating from
fields far to the North or from well camouflaged fields. Interrogation
of captured airmen indicates the presence of light bombers in the North
Korean Air Force, which have not appeared in the battle area, probably
because of the U.S. superiority of fighter aircraft. (FEAF) (SECRET)
5. General
Confirmation has been received of recruitment of young Koreans
for military service from the Seoul-Inchon area. Food is scarce in this
area and a labor draft is under way. (CINCFE) (SECRET)
