Weather: Overcast from 12,000 to 16,000 feet over southeast Korea. Scattered to broken clouds from 3,000 to 7,000 feet, becoming overcast north of Suwon. Visibility 10 miles or more throughout. Forecast: Scattered to broken clouds from 3,500 to 7,000 feet, with visibility over 10 miles. (FEAF) 2. Soviet participation: Negative. 3. Operations: ENEMY SITUATION a. North Korean divisions in contact from west to east are reported to be the 4th, 1st, 2d, 15th, and 5th. The 3d and 6th divisions, while previously reported in the forward area, do not appear in the current period. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. An enemy attack in the vicinity of Sohang was repulsed at 1645/15 (KT) with the aid of United States fighter support. However, the enemy has since established a bridgehead south of the Kum River and holds Kongju. Forces of the 18th NK Regt and the 1st NK division now control the North-South highway from Kongju to Nonsan. (FECOM) (SECRET) C. There are enemy tank concentrations north of the Kum River but none have been reported as crossing. (FECOM (SECRET) d. At 0345/16 (KT) the 1st or 4th North Korean division attacked the position of the 19th U.S. Infantry supported by an estimated two batteries of 155 mm. artillery and mortars. The mortar fire is reported heavy. The attack has penetrated one Company position in the area northeast of Hwangnyong. (FECOM) (SECRET) e." The 2d North Korean division's penetration to Munui of 15 July pushed back the left flank of the 1st ROK Corps.
