D. In the west coast area the 4th NK Division is concentrating in the
vicinity of Hadong. The 2nd NK Regiment moved to Hadong to reinforce
enemy elements already there. Tanks have been brought up to lead the
advance towards Chinju. Approximately 400 NK Troops advanced from
Hadong to a position seven miles east of Chinju. An enemy tank-infantry
column is proceeding from Anui to Kochang. (FECOM) (SECRET)
C. In the Kumchon Area the 2nd and 3rd NK Divisions continued to
exert heavy pressure on the 1st Cavalry Division and the 27th Infantry

vicinity of Hwanggan. On the right (North) flank slight penetrations were
made in the line held by the 24th Infantry seven miles west of Sangju.

d. An unconfirmed report indicates that an unidentified NK Division
is headed towards Muju from Yongdong. In Chirye, twelve miles south of
Kumchon, NK troops presumably guerrillas, dressed in white, are assembl-
ing, Seven miles north of Chirye an enemy road block bisects the Kumchon-
Kochang highway Sixteen miles south of Kumchon, 1500 refugees, probably
disguised NK troops, are moving from Kwangi to Changchon. (FECOM)

e. In the east sector 12 tanks and a large concentration of troops
were observed in the vicinity of Mungyong. ROK forces seized Hill 267g
five miles north of Ham chang. In an attack north of Yechon the 18th ROK
regiment killed 52 and captured some enemy equipment. Elements of the
8th N.K. Division, attempting to encircle ROK troops, have established a
road block at Sinyang, ten miles east of Yechon® ROK troops in Yechon
were under artillery fire. Elements of the 7th NK Division, supported by
tanks, crossed a branch of the Naesong river and attacked the 8th ROK
Division north of Yechon. In preparation for the attack a N.K. regiment
advanced south along the Yongju-Ongchon road. (FECOM) (SECRET)
1. In the Yongdok area the 3rd ROK Division made slight advances
against heavy enemy opposition. An unconfirmed report states that the
5th NK Division lost two battalions recently in action in the Yongdok Area.
