CORCORAN to WORTH CLARK at National 4882. CORCORAN asked what
happened on 'that COLEMAN' case and CLARK said he had spent
three-quarters of an hour with ROBBINS and DIAMOND and we've
'shot the works.' WORTH said that DIAMOND told him that $100,000
is an equitable settlement but that "we have no right under the
law to compromise and we must make a complete item by item justi-
fication. " "This was said in front of ROBBINS. DIAMOND said if
it was taken to the District Attorney he had power to compromise.
SHER said it would not go to the District Attorney, " said WORTH.
"The district engineer has made his finding of fact and the
limit has been stretched by offering $84,000. DIAMOND said it
would be all right to take the matter before the General Account-
ing office and that would be all right with him. " CORCORAN
asked how long that would take. WORTH said it would be the same
as starting all over again. There was discussion about having
each of the attorneys knock off $5000 from their fee and thus
avoid an expensive court of claims trial. WORTH said that SHER
believes he has three counts that will stand up in the Court of
Claims. Recovery on this would be $260,000. WORTH said: "We
could file a complaint and then get a compromise with FRANK SHAY
(Phon. )" whom CORCORAN said would not compromise 'with you and
me.' The matter was left that way and WORTH is disappointed.
CORCORAN said he was afraid to go to New York because he was
afraid to because of getting mixed up in the mayoralty. WORTH
said, "I talked with KINSEY ROBINSON last night who asked if it
would be all right if he drew a check for us for expenses and
I told him no. He said that when we finish this thing you write
your own ticket. He said that MEYERS is getting a million and
a half bucks out of this deal on the Washington Power and Loan
and ALLER is going to retire with a $100,000 a year contract for
ten years which is another million dollars." TOM CORCORAN said
that he would see ROBINSON in the morning. They then discuss
this 'radio thing' and 'taking GLASSMAN on.' TOM said that what
ever they do it is best to talk to WHEELER or ED CRANEY, preferably
