CO SUMMARY Washington, D. C. July 7, 1945 8:47am TOM CORCORAN to JOSH LEE telling the latter that he was having breakfast at the Anchorage with SAM RAYBURN about ARNOLD KIEHN. "It's supposed to be on the basis of a letter," said CORCORAN, "that's come to RAYBURN from a friend of his named BATES (Phon.) of which you were supposed to have a copy. Have you got it?" JOSH said he had not received it. TOM said he may put the matter off until Monday inasmuch as JOSH has not received the letter. JOSH said he would let TOM know if he received the letter today or over the week-end. (The following conversation then took place between TOM and JOSH: L--How do you like FRED VINSON? C--Oh, wonderful! L--Ah, ha -- just what I thought. Just exactly, haa. C--Wonderful! L--Everything's fine! C--I think things are I think you've got two big pillars in now. L--Are you and SHAY MINTON (JUDGE SHERMAN MINTON) good --? C--Yeah! L--Ah, should we make a drive for him? C--Ah, yesterday. the big boss said that SHAY didn't want it. L--Oh! No, SHAY wants something active. He doesn't want to be on (indistinct) -- C--That's right. He said he didn't want to be on the Appellate Court. L--That's right! Well C--I have a hunch that THURMAN ARNOLD may get it. L--on! Ah, he'd rather see TOMMY get it. C--Yeah. L--I really would. C--Well, I know, but that ain't in the cards. L--I don't know. I, I don't know. Well, I guess TRUMAN, he has a sort of a front page -- you know -- all about things and C--Yeah! L--Kind of a lead that way, but, TOMMY would be so much better. Well, I'll call you Tom, if I get anything on that (KIEHN matter). 9:20am CORCORAN to Miss KIRKPATRICK in office of D. WORTH CLARK. They discuss a letter which CORCORAN, CLARK and another are to sign respecting percentages of soap quota to go to LEVER BROTHERS, COLGATE and PROCTOR. Miss KIRKPATRICK will come over to CORCORAN'S office with the file. CLARK is out of town. 10:48am Mrs. ROCKEFELLER to BILL YOUNGMAN who, Mrs. BEHAN said, left last night and will not return until the middle of next week. 10:50am Mr. LEAHY (WILLIAM C. LEAHY of Washington Selective Service?) of DI. 0558 to CORCORAN, who is not in. CORCORAN will contact LEAHY.
