CO SUMMARY
Washington, D. C.
July 7, 1945
8:47am
TOM CORCORAN to JOSH LEE telling the latter that he was having
breakfast at the Anchorage with SAM RAYBURN about ARNOLD KIEHN.
"It's supposed to be on the basis of a letter," said CORCORAN,
"that's come to RAYBURN from a friend of his named BATES (Phon.)
of which you were supposed to have a copy. Have you got it?"
JOSH said he had not received it. TOM said he may put the matter
off until Monday inasmuch as JOSH has not received the letter.
JOSH said he would let TOM know if he received the letter today
or over the week-end. (The following conversation then took
place between TOM and JOSH:
L--How do you like FRED VINSON?
C--Oh, wonderful!
L--Ah, ha -- just what I thought. Just exactly, haa.
C--Wonderful!
L--Everything's fine!
C--I think things are I think you've got two big pillars in
now.
L--Are you and SHAY MINTON (JUDGE SHERMAN MINTON) good --?
C--Yeah!
L--Ah, should we make a drive for him?
C--Ah, yesterday. the big boss said that SHAY didn't want it.
L--Oh! No, SHAY wants something active. He doesn't want to
be on (indistinct) --
C--That's right. He said he didn't want to be on the Appellate
Court.
L--That's right! Well
C--I have a hunch that THURMAN ARNOLD may get it.
L--on! Ah, he'd rather see TOMMY get it.
C--Yeah.
L--I really would.
C--Well, I know, but that ain't in the cards.
L--I don't know. I, I don't know. Well, I guess TRUMAN, he has
a sort of a front page -- you know -- all about things and
C--Yeah!
L--Kind of a lead that way, but, TOMMY would be so much better.
Well, I'll call you Tom, if I get anything on that (KIEHN
matter).

discuss a letter which CORCORAN, CLARK and another are to sign
