to get cleaned up so that he may go on a vacation. TOM stated
that on May 7, 1945, he received a letter from a fellow named
HOOKER (Phon.) from Nashville, Tennessee regarding a man named
ARTHUR PENDLETON of Lebanon, Tennessee, requesting TOM to do
what he could to get PENDLETON transferred from the RFC in Wash-
ington to the RFC in Nashville, Tennessee. TOM said HOOKER'S
letter stated PENDLETON has some friends who will talk to Mr.
(JOHN, Federal Loan Administrator) SNYDER and asked TOM to talk
to SNYDER or someone else in RFC about PENDLETON. CORCORAN told
HOBSON that HOOKER is a friend of JUSTICE DOUGLAS. He asked
HOBSON to find out where PENDLETON is now, since the letter is
two months old, and if he has been transferred "I'll be glad
to take the credit for it.

YOUNGMAN to CORCORAN, substantially as follows:
Y--Tom, how'd you make out?
C--Gettin' better. I think WORTH got a long way this afternoon.
Caught the other fellows flat and the thing's been sent
back to them with the fellow he talked to on his side with
practically an order to show cause. I think we've got a
break. We're waiting to hear again from CLINTON (ANDERSON,
Secretary of Agriculture).
Y--You expect probably by Tuesday. How about the things with
WEDGE (Phon.)?
C--We'll know something tomorrow.
Y--About the matter of my brother-in-law
C--SHAGGY (QUINN SHAUGHNESSY) found out about this other business
and I've a date with Miss MURPHY over at (ADMIRAL) Mc INTYRE's
office to clear it. It's all in the doctor's hands.
Y--That's swell. The boy's been living with his in-laws. It's
kinda hard. Next thing do you know ALFRED JONES in the
RFC?
C--No, but I'll get to know him.
Y--Here's the story. Kinda funny. The Chinese are buying 25
million dollars worth of textiles to ship to China and
when T. V. was here SOONG & DAY (Phon.) were handling it
for him. It was supposed to be purchased through the Chinese
Supply Commission and they were supposed to arrange for
the shipping and everything. As soon as they got out of
the country, I mean SOONG & DAY, this KUNG (Phon.) guy over
