Secretary ICKES to CORCORAN. ICKES asked CORCORAN to have lunch with him
today, but CORCORAN said he is having lunch with SAM RAYBURN following the
VINSON swearing-in. CORCORAN and ICKES will have lunch together tomorrow.
CORCORAN asked if ICKES was going to be present at the swearing-in, and
when ICKES replied that he was, CORCORAN said he thought it important for
ICKES to be present. CORCORAN then suggested that ICKES ask LEO CROWLEY
to lunch today; that CROWLEY wants very much to talk to ICKES; that CROWLEY
is very grateful about the "coal business," and that he also has some other
things which CORCORAN thinks it would be worthwhile for ICKES to hear.
ICKES said he would invite CROWLEY to lunch today.
9:20 AM
BOB LaFOLLETTE (Senator from Wisconsin) to CORCORAN. CORCORAN asked if he
could meet BOB in latter's office and go with him to the VINSON swearing-in.
BOB replied in the affirmative. CORCORAN will meet him at 10:00 A.M. there.
9:27 AM
LEO CROWLEY to CORCORAN. Latter asked if HAL (HAROLD ICKES ?) had called
CROWLEY for lunch. CROWLEY replied that he had and that he (CROWLEY)
would talk with him when he goes "over there."
9:30 AM
EDWARD FOX, State Department, Extension 2738, to YOUNGMAN who is out of the
city. YOUNGMAN should call FOX when he returns.
10:05 AM
General PERSONS to CORCORAN who is not in. CORCORAN will contact him later.
10:20 AM
MARTIN DOWNS, Smaller War Plants, REpublic 7500, Extension 74791, to BRENNAN
who was not in. He will call later.

DEAN CASEY (phonetic) who told MRS. BEHAN he was "just in town for a couple
of hours," to CORCORAN who is not in. DEAN will be in town again within a
week and will see him then.

BILL YOUNGMAN, in Manchester, Massachusetts, talked with JOHN NASON. The
latter brought him up to date on current business in the office and addition-
ally asked whether BILL knew a man named MARTIN WONG (phonetic) who is "over
here as WONG WING HOW's (phonetic) personal representative in connection--
trying to see how the Chinese Supply Commission can fit into the War Production
Board. He is also supposed to be studying American War Production Board
methods and industrial methods generally. DONALD F. HARDING (Assistant
Treasurer, China Defense Supply, Inc. ?) and (SHAGGY ?) QUINN SHAUGHNESSY
had dinner with him. He hasn't been around here but DON HARDING thought he
was a pretty smart guy and that you ought to see him. He'll be here the
rest of the week and then he's going on a Junket." BILL said he did not know
him but he'll see him this week. JOHN read a letter to YOUNGMAN which JIM
BRENNAN received from CUSHING which stated that the "air passenger people
had been in close touch with representative of Sterling! and that a berth
offered to MR. LEGGATT directly. It is a faster run than the Swede line.
