Washington, D. C. CO SUMMARY July 26, 1945 8:18 AM CORCORAN to JAMES P. McGRANERY of the Justice Department, at Shoreham Hotel. The following conversation took place: C - JIM, on that thing that BEN COHEN told me to watch that I told you about-did you learn anything? M - I didn't get it yet, TOM, but I'll watch it for you. C - Well, it's tomorrow morning, isn't it? M - I don't know. I'll take care of it for you. Your man is SERVICE--I got it. C - Yeah. So that we can cut him out. O.K. M - All right, TOM. C - All right, JIM. When are you going to Jersey City? M - Friday night. C - All right. You'll let me know before you go. M - Oh, sure. C - All right. 8:57 AM MR. REYNOLDS, at Las Vegas, Nevada, to MAC WRIGHT. REYNOLDS said that "we" attended to everything last night; that "we" got the wires, four of them, off last night, one from "our" State-National Democratic Committeeman. REYNOLDS said they would send copies of the wires to WRIGHT. REYNOLDS also said that DOC called MACK (phonetic) last night but that "we" don't know what is going to come of that; that it looks like MACK is "thoroughly set on this man;" that DOC told him that "he" had been affiliated with the oil companies and that MACK said, "Well, can you prove it?" REYNOLDS said that DOC told MACK that he couldn't prove it but that he knew it to be true. REYNOLDS said that DOC went home to Los Angeles last night. WRIGHT told REYNOLDS that even if it doesn't work, it has been worthwhile anyway; that it isn't a matter of life and death--"we' pull it out notwithstanding that," but that "we'd like to block it if we can, but we'll win anyway." REYNOLDS said that WRIGHT is doing a good job and that "we're all very happy." He asked WRIGHT, "Is the thing going to be filed pretty soon?" and WRIGHT replied that it may not be until the end of August; that "You can't tell ahead of time about these things, you've got to work them out strategically at the right time." WRIGHT said "we'll" work it out and let you know in a few days. 9:53 AM (Former Senator) JOSH LEE to CORCORAN. LEE said he was now in a booth and the following conversation took place: L - Two things: One--I talked to--JULIAN (probably means JULIUS) HOLMES called me on the phone and he wants me to see some of that-- C - (Interrupting) That's right, and I want you to see me before you see that. That's right. L - And he's coming over at 2:30 and I told him, I said, "I don't think there's a lot of use in me seeing it because I think I've seen it. I said, "I don't think it would do any good unless you were present and the man himself so he'd have a chance to either explain or deny it or say it's true or not." "Well," he said, "I'd rather you would see it first," and I said all right. I said, "I'll see it and then I'll talk to you." So he isn't coming himself--he's sending a man to my office with it.
