TOM CORCORAN to MR. HINCKLEY (Continued)
TC - Yeah. I know that and he saw that, too, and I think he thinks that
if---that JED was deliberately asked to stay on that committee to
make trouble for him. But he's wise to that. Now, I'm gonna ¹ see
him after lunch. My own hunch is, he's gonna ¹ stay and slug. I
also want to tell you that as far as WORTH CLARK is concerned,
WORTH is not there in that picture. A lot of people are trying to
put him into it but he can't afford to go in. WORTH's under contract
with me to stay with me for two years.
MH
-
Well, that' all I want you to know is that if that's the way it
is I'm for it 1000%. We gotta have somebody from out there---
TC
-
But I can't afford, I mean he can't---I've put my investment into
him. Now I need a year to get my investment out if you don't mind
my talking in such terms. I've put my big gamble in and I've pulled
him through. Now, it would be damned unfair for him to yank out and
leave me flat because somebody over there isn't half as important
to me as a partner is. Now, I'm gonna see the old man this afternoon
at 2:30. I'll know a hell of a lot more---how the situation lies-
at that time. The next thing I want to tell you is that WORTH had
a long talk with GLASSMAN and GLASSMAN has sort of dropped the idea
of the thing up in Idaho--- didn't raise it at all. He wanted to
talk about the possibility of WORTH getting him BILL DOLPH to go
into a syndicate in Chicago and a syndicate in Detroit which is a
different kind of a proposition. I mean they talked and talked and
the Idaho thing never came up. I'm trying to keep him (WORTH) and
you together.
MH - They had a long talk and that's exactly what GLASSMAN said---they
accomplished nothing at all. He said as far as Idaho is concerned,
it's right where it was. He said I thought if WORTH was interested
he'd press the thing, but apparently he wasn't.
TC - Well, WORTH was waiting to see what he wanted to do. Do I have to
do all the pressing.
They then spoke of PRESTON (phonetic) and TOM HEATH--in the sugar business
in Idaho. TOM said, "I think he's (PRESTON) the guy that was backing
the contrary proposition. HINCKLEY said, "Our competitors have got
applications (for radio station licenses ?) in all those little towns
up there and I think before we get through you're gonna' get a pretty
vigorous protest in the commission. Senator TAYLOR---
TC - Against who?
MH - Against these outside people coming in there and preempting any
possibility of agents going into the business.
TC - I'll take that up. By the way--did you have your lunch with the
chairman?
MH - Yes, I did.
TC - What's his state of mind?
MH - Well, I give you a guess--if they voted on that thing today it would
be 2 and 2.
TC - Is he gonna' vote on it today?
MH - No.
TC - He's gonna' wait until the new man's appointed?
