1. Weather:
Widely scattered showers and low clouds at 3500 feet. Visibility gener-
ally unrestricted except in haze in valleys and along the southeast coast.
Forecast: Scattered low clouds over most of Korea with visibility generally
unrestricted.
2. Soviet Participation:
Negative.
3. Enemy Situation:
a. An enemy force of undetermined strength, supported by artillery,
attacked positions of elements of the 35th U.S. RCT 3 miles northwest of
Haman at dawn 18 August for two hours. Sporadic enemy small arms and
artillery fire, and probing of friendly lines continue in this area. Enemy
troop and vehicular activity was reported one mile southwest of Tundok.
Police reported an undetermined number of the enemy concentrated at
Tongyong. Guerrilla groups are reported active in the Masan area. (FECOM)

b.
The 4th North Korean Division is offering strong resistance against
the attack of U.S. forces in the bridgehead area of the Yongsan pocket. One
enemy unit in this area is reported considering returning to the west bank of
the river because of lack of arms and gasoline. An estimated 20 of the enemy
attacked a medical collection point of the 21st U.S. RCT causing a small amount
of damage. An enemy pre-dawn attack on 18 August against elements of the
9th U.S. RCT was contained. Enemy counterattacks early on 18 August tempor-
arily pushed back friendly forces, but U.S. lines are now restored and friendly
positions are being consolidated. (FECOM) (SECRET)
