1. Weather:
Scattered clouds with base at 4,000 feet over most of Korea;
some areas overcast. Visibility unrestricted except in haze and showers.
Forecast: Generally excellent weather, with scattered clouds.
2. Soviet Participation:
Negative.
3. Enemy Situation:
a. In the Chinju area, despite stubborn enemy resistance, the
U.S. forces restored all penetrated positions and recaptured all ground
which had been lost during the previous 48 hours. Sporadic enemy artil-
lery, mortar, and small arms fire continued along the 24th and 5th RCT
sectors throughout 22 August. Twenty-seven North Korean vehicles were
observed moving north in the vicinity of Tundok prior to dark. (FECOM)

b. Enemy forces continued to hold the bridgehead south of Tuk-
song with an undetermined number of enemy troops crossing the Naktong
in the vicinity of the river ferry 3 1/2 miles south-southwest of Tuksong
shortly after dark. An estimated 10 enemy artillery positions are in an
area 1/2 mile south of Tuksong. Friendly patrols operating west of the
Naktong River reported that an undetermined number of trucks unloaded
enemy troops in an area 2 to 3 miles southwest of Waegwan during the
night of 22-23 August. (FECOM) (SECRET)
C. An estimated enemy company 4 miles northwest of Taegu was
surrounded by ROK forces. Enemy forces in undetermined strength in-
filtrated around the east flank of the 27th U.S. RCT and occupied the high
ground about 10 miles north of Taegu, controlling the road through 27th
U.S. RCT's rear area. Possession of those positions enabled the enemy
to intermittently interrupt use of the road by fire and to direct mortar
fire against friendly artillery positions. Enemy activity on the front of
the 27th U.S. RCT which was limited to probing action during the daylight
