Situation in Brief: GROUND In the southern sector, elements of the 24th U. S. RCT repulsed four enemy attacks about 2 miles northwest of Haman during the night of 10-11 September. West of Changnyong, the enemy launched a dawn attack on 11 September which was repulsed by elements of the 23d and 38th U. S. RCTs, assisted by tactical air support; the enemy renewed the attack later in the morning and fighting continues as enemy strength in this bridgehead increases. Heavy enemy pressure was exerted all along the front of the 1st U. S. Cavalry Division, which was forced to withdraw slightly before beating off the attackers. Elements holding the left flank of the 1st ROK Division repulsed repeated enemy attacks north of Taegu. The enemy is reported to be disorganized in the area southeast of Yongchon where friendly forces have made considerable gains. In the Kyongju-Angang area, fighting seesawed without much change of position. Enemy penetrations south of Yonil were attacked early on 11 September. (FECOM) (SECRET) NAVY Ships of the east coast patrol delivered call fire in the Pohang area forcing the withdrawal of three enemy attacking units. HELENA (CA), BRUSH (DD), and THOMAS (DD) swept the east coast north to the Hamhung area, using a helicopter for air spot; various enemy small craft were destroyed or damaged. DOYLE furnished fire support in the southern sector. Planes from BADOENG STRAIT and SICILY destroyed enemy defensive installations in the Inchon area. (FECOM) (SECRET) AIR On 10 September, FEAF aircraft flew 531 sorties of which 383 were combat.
