Situation in Brief: GROUND Enemy action in all sectors except the Yongchon area limited to patrolling, light mortar fire, and minor infiltrations. ROK forces in the Yongchon area continued to advance against light opposition. NAVY Ships of the east coast patrol continued the blockade of Pohang, and provided effective harassing and interdiction fire. BRUSH shelled and silenced a shore battery which had taken the ship under fire. PHILIPPINE SEA and VALLEY FORGE aircraft ranged the west coast, striking targets in the cities and towns, as well as AA positions. British ships patrolled the west coast, while ROK navy vessels searched the inshore waters for enemy craft. AIR On 12 September, FEAF aircraft flew 495 sorties, of which 290 were combat. On 13 September, FEAF dispatched 64 B-29's against the following targets: 24 aircraft attacked marshaling yards northwest of Taegu; 9 aircraft attacked bridges in central Korea; 29 aircraft attacked rail targets in north and central Korea; and 2 aircraft dropped leaflets. All bombing attacks were made visually. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Weather: Scattered clouds over north Korea with bases at 3,000 feet; multiple layer clouds with bases at 2,000 feet over central Korea with occasional showers; broken to overcast low clouds at 2,000 feet over south Korea. Considerable cloudiness and rain over Kyushu. Forecast: Little change in north Korea; broken clouds with showers and thunderstorms over central and southwest Korea; southeast Korea overcast with light rain.
