1. Situation in Brief:
Enemy action in the U.S. I Corps sector was light during the period,
with no hostile contact reported along the front from 1100/06 (KT) until evening
when the 24th U.S. Infantry Division repulsed 2 light probings east of Chonghyon.
Elements of the 2d U.S. Infantry Division early on 7 November repulsed an
attack by 2 companies. In the ROK II Corps zone, the 6th and 7th ROK Divisions
repulsed 5 attacks during the period, the largest being launched in battalion
strength. In the Sudong area, the 7th U.S. Marine Regiment continued to en-
counter stubborn resistance from elements of the 124th CCF Division. The 17th
U.S. Infantry RCT advanced north to Koogu without opposition. On the east
coast, the ROK Capitol Division secured Kilchu and advanced north to Myong-
chon. Minesweeping continued at Chinnampo and Hungnam. Carrier planes
operated between 39N to 40N in close air support of the ground forces. Wonsan
was designated as the supply point, while unloading continued at Iwon. On 6
November, Naval air flew 144 sorties, and U.N. aircraft under FEAF control
flew 415 sorties, including 152 combat. (FECOM)(SECRET)
2. Weather:
Scattered low, middle, and high clouds over all Korea. Visibility 10
miles, lowering to 1 to 3 miles in early morning ground fog. Forecast: No
change. )(SECRET)
3. Chinese Communist Participation:
a. A total number of 33 CCF PW's have been captured to date in the
U.S. Eighth Army zone of responsibility. PW's from the 112th CCF Division
stated that elements of the 38th CCF Army began crossing the Yalu River on 23
October, and arrived in the vicinity of Kaechon on 3 November. On 6 November,
2 CCF PW's were captured in the vicinity of Tokchon by the 16th ROK Regiment,
and identified as being from the 335th CCF Regiment, 113th Division, 38th CCF
Army; however, it is believed that the identity of the division should have been
112th Division. The 19th U.S. RCT took 1 CCF PW who identified his unit as
the 335th CCF Regiment, 119th Division, 40th CCF Army on 6 November. One
CCF PW captured on 6 November by the 5th ROK Regiment claimed to be a
member of the 5th CCF Regiment, 113th Division, 38th CCF Army. (FECOM)
