JOINT DAILY SITREP NO. 133
(maps attached)
From 0700/10 (EST) to 0700/13 (EST)
From 2100/10 (Korea) to 2100/13 (Korea)
1. Situation in Brief:
The pattern of hostile reaction which varied from stubborn resis-
tance and strong counteraction on the right to sporadic resistance on the left
was encountered by U.S. Eighth Army units. On the ROK II Corps front,
strong enemy attacks drove a 2 mile penetration into the 6th ROK Division
positions before the hostile advance was contained with the aid of air strikes
which inflicted approximately 1,000 enemy casualties. Enemy forces offered
bitter resistance to the right and left regiments of the 1st U.S. Cavalry Divi-
sion southeast of Yongbyon and in the Won area. However, the center Regi-
ment encountered lighter opposition. On the Army's left, the 1st ROK Divi-
sion and the 27th British Commonwealth Brigade reported little enemy activity
in the Pakchon area, while the 24th U.S. Infantry Division encountered sporadic
resistance 3 to 5 miles least of Pakchon. On the east coast, the advance of the
ROK Capitol Division was slowed by an estimated 2 enemy regiments along the
Myonggan River northeast of Myongchon. The 1st ROK Cavalry Regiment,
advancing northwest toward Haspu, reported no resistance. The 15th U.S.
Infantry RCT, which landed recently at Wonsan, encountered 3 enemy road-
blocks slightly east of Yongpo. The 1st U.S. Marine Division reported only
patrol contact in its zone of action. Naval vessels continued patrolling both
coasts, as air operations and minesweeping activities in the Hungnam and
Chinnampo area were hampered by weather. During the 3 day period of 10,
11, and 12 November, Naval air flew 122 sorties, and U.N. aircraft under FEAF
control flew 1,473 sorties, including 757 combat. (FECOM) (SECRET)
2. Weather:
Scattered, low, and middle clouds over north Korea. Broken low
and middle clouds over central and southern Korea. Visibility 10 miles, low-
ering to 1 to 3 miles in early morning haze and ground fog. Forecast: Scattered
low and middle clouds over all Korea with visibility remaining unchanged. (FEAF)
