Situation in Brief: U.S. X Corps units made 3 important gains: the 17th U.S. RCT entered Hyesanjin on the Manchurian border at 0945/21 (KT); the ROK Capitol Division made advances up to 10 miles against very light opposition along the east coast, capturing Chuchonhujang and Hoemun; and the 26th ROK Regiment encountered stiff resistance in seizing Huksu. Patrolling continued to characterize the U.S. I Corps front line action. Little or no hostile resistance was encountered by the advancing ROK II Corps units, except on the right flank where the 10th ROK Regiment, opposed by 2 enemy companies which offered moderate delaying action, seized Yongwon. ST. PAUL and ENGLISH provided both day and night fire support for the ROK Capitol Division with excellent results, Naval air flew 104 sorties on 20 November, and U.N. aircraft under FEAF control flew 499 sorties, includ- ing 211 combat. (FECOM)(SECRET) 2. Weather: Multi-layer cloud decks occurred with the passage of the cold front, with visibility generally 6 miles. Forecast: Generally clear with good visibility. (FEAF) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: a. U.S. I Corps: The 12th and 15th Regiments of the 1st ROK Division continued patrolling as the 11th Regiment relieved the 5th U.S. Infantry RCT in an area from 5 miles north of Pakchon eastward to Pyong- jiwon. Units of the 24th U.S. Infantry and 1st U.S. Cavalry Divisions con- tinued patrolling. The 9th U.S. RCT advanced to a general line from 7 1/2 to 10 miles east of Yongbyon. (FECOM)(SECRET) b. ROK II Corps: In the 6th ROK Division sector, the 2d Regiment advanced to an area 5 to 6 miles east of Won and the 19th Regiment to an area approximately 8 miles east of Won. The 7th Regiment continued re- grouping in the vicinity of Kaechon.
