Situation in Brief: The U.S. I and IX Corps launched a strong reconnaissance in force early on 25 January into the area between Suwon-Ichon-Yoju road and the Han River. The Reconnaissance Company of the 25th U.S. Infantry Division was 8 miles west-northwest of Suwon by 1150 (KT) with no contact reported; an element of the 35th U.S. RCT flushed 200 enemy 3 miles west of Suwon and was in fast pursuit at 1500 (KT), while other elements of the RCT were on the edge of Suwon at 1630 (KT); the 1st Turkish Armed For- ces Command (-) encountered approximately 50 enemy 6 miles southeast of Suwon; however, elements of the Command advanced to 9 miles north- east of Osan by 1120 (KT), without contact and at 1650 (KT) an element in Kumnyangjang reported receiving small arms fire from the northeast; the 8th U.S. Cavalry RCT was 5 1/2 miles east of Kumnyangjang by 1130 hours without contact, while other elements of the 1st U.S. Cavalry Divi- sion and the Greek Battalion reached a point 6 miles east=northeast of Ichon by 1230 (KT) without contact. in the Yongwol area, 400 enemy heavily resisted attacking elements of the 7th ROK Division. The ROK troops drove the enemy from and seized the high ground northeast of Yong- wol, during the late afternoon. Late reports list 364 enemy killed in action and 17 captured. An armored patrol of the 2d U.S. Infantry Division ad- vanced to Hoengsong, 33 miles south of the 38th parallel, dispersing 3 enemy groups enroute. The patrol entered Hoengsong without opposition. Navy planes flew 204 sorties on 24 January, and U.N. aircraft under FEAF control flew 722 sorties. (FECOM) (SECRET) 2. Weather: Scattered to occasional broken low clouds in western Korea.
