GROUND
a. U.S. I Corps: Resistance was generally light in the entire West-
ern sector. Gains of up to 3 miles were registered. The Turkish Brigade ad-
vanced approximately 1 mile against light resistance to a line about 8 miles
northwest of Suwon. In the 25th U.S. Infantry Division area, the 35th U.S. In.-
fantry RCT met light opposition from an estimated two enemy companies in
making slight gains 7 miles northwest of Suwon. A battalion-sized enemy
night counterattack between the flanks of the Turkish Brigade and the 35th RCT
forced Turkish elements to withdraw slightly, but elements of the 35th RCT
held firm; friendly artillery assisted in repulsing this counterattack by 0115/03
(KT). The 15th ROK Regiment remained in position 4 miles north of Suwon.
Units of the 3d U.S. Infantry Division maintained their positions northeast of
Suwon, patrolling extensively; light enemy contact was established 6 miles
northeast of Suwon. (FECOM) (SECRET)
b. U.S. IX Corps: Elements of the 1st U.S. Cavalry Division dis-
persed small enemy groups on 2 February, and by nightfall attacking elements
were in position as follows: 2d Battalion, 5th U.S. Cavairy RCT, 7 miles north
of Kumyangjang; 1st Battalion, 7th U.S. Cavalry RCT, 9 miles northeast of
Kumyangjang; and the Greek Battalion, 8 miles northeast of Kumyangjang. The
5th U. S. Infantry RCT, 24th U.S. Infantry Division, encountered no opposition
in advancing to 6 miles northwest of Ichon, and the 19th U.S. Infantry RCT also
advanced without opposition to the Han River 10 miles northeast of Ichon. (FE-
