1. Weather:
Korean weather on 21 February consisted of broken to overcast
middle and high clouds with scattered low clouds which became broken to
overcast in the southern areas and along the west coast south of Pyongyang.
Visibility was 7-10 miles, reduced to 3 miles in early morning haze. Mini-
mum battle area temperature during the period was 42 degrees F. Fore-
cast for 22 February: Increasing cloudiness at all levels as a low moves
eastward across north Korea and a cold front moves southward across
Korea. Visibility will be 7-10 miles lowering to 1-3 miles in early morn-
ing haze and smoke, and in heavy rain and snow showers in the frontal

2. United Nations Situation:
GROUND
a. U.S. I Corps: Positions along the south bank of the Han River
were maintained. Patrols attempting to cross the river at several points
10-20 miles east of Seoul encountered intense enemy fire. The Turkish
Brigade is enroute to the area 4 miles northeast of Kyongan. (FECOM)

b. U.S. IX Corps: 24th U.S. Infantry Division: Patrols con-
tacted small enemy groups 7 miles northeast of Yangpyong. 1st U.S. Cav-
alry Division: The 8th U.S. Cavalry RCT reached an area 4 miles north-
west of Chipyong. The 5th U.S. Cavalry RCT advanced up to 5 miles,
reaching a 2 mile arc around Chipyong; no enemy resistance was reported.
The 7th U.S. Cavalry RCT, with the Greek Battalion attached, moved to
7 miles north of Yoju and reverted to division control. The 27th British
Commonwealth Brigade reported no enemy contact as friendly patrols
ranged 3 miles northward. The 6th ROK Division patrolled its sector with-
out contacting the enemy. 1st U.S. Marine Division: The 1st U.S. Marine
RCT closed at Wonju 20 February; the remainder of the division was en-
route. IX Corps opened a limited objective attack 21 February; initial in-
complete reports show participation by the 5th Cavalry RCT, the 27th Bri-
tish Commonwealth Brigade, and the 1st and 5th Marine RCT's. (FECOM)
