Weather: Korean weather for 1 March consisted of broken to overcast low and middle clouds early in the period, clearing to occasional scat- tered clouds over all Korea, with the exception of occasional broken low clouds in the southern portion. Visibility was 7-10 miles, restricted to 5 miles in snow showers. Battle area temperatures were between 20-40 degrees F. Forecast for 2 March: Clear or only scattered low clouds. Visibility 7-10 miles. Battle area temperatures will be between 19 and 35 degrees F. (FEAF)(SECRET) 2. United Nations Situation: GROUND a. U.S. I Corps: Corps front line units continued patrolling without significant enemy contact. A ROK patrol ranged approximately 1 mile north of the Han River and entered the southwestern section of Seoul. Two enemy battalions were observed north of the Han River oppo- site the U.S. 25th Infantry Division front 17 miles east of Seoul. (FE- COM)(SECRET) b. U.S. IX Corps: The 24th U.S. Infantry Division patrolled north of the Han River, encountering four scattered enemy groups of undetermined size. Patrols ranged up to 5 miles north of division posi- tions. 1st U.S. Cavalry Division: On 28 February, the 5th U.S. Cavalry Regiment advanced up to 2 miles against light resistance establishing a general line from a point 5 1/2 miles north of Chipyong and extending due east 3 miles. An enemy counterattack launched at 0400/01 (KT) was re- pulsed. The Canadian Battalion of the 27th British Commonwealth Brigade advanced 1 mile to the northwest against light opposition and seized the high ground 6 miles northeast of Chipyong. 6th ROK Division: The 7th ROK Regiment assembled in an area 9 miles southwest of Hoengsong after being relieved by the 7th U.S. Marine Regiment. The remainder of the 6th ROK Division launched an attack at 0300/01 (KT) after repuls- ing enemy probing operations during the night.
