Weather: Korean weather, during the period, consisted of scattered to low broken clouds, clearing somewhat during the middle of the period, increasing to overcast clouds in several layers. Visibility good except in light snow showers. Battle area temperatures ranged between 27 and 38 degrees F. 6 March forecast: General overcast multilayered clouds with snow showers in the north, and intermittent rain in the south, clear- ing toward end of period. Battle area temperatures will be between 20 and 38 degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: The enemy continues to maintain a preponderance of strength opposite the U.S. IX Corps. Offensive operations were limited to small scale counterattacks against friendly forces as the enemy stubbornly re- sisted in the U.S. X Corps sector. Increased resistance was noted in the ROK III Corps zone of operations. Considerable vehicular movement observed in rear areas. On the night of 2-3 March an air sighting located 526 vehicles of which 349 were moving north. (FECOM)(SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND a General: U.S. I Corps patrol contacts were confined to the north bank of the Han River. U.S. IX Corps right flank units made limi- ted gains against light resistance. Heavy enemy resistance encountered opposite U.S. X Corps. Elements of the ROK III Corps continued advanc- ing against increasing opposition. (FECOM)(SECRET) b. U.S. I Corps: The 1st ROK Division maintained positions under increasing artillery and mortar fire received from the west of Seoul. The 3d U.S. Infantry Division continued patrolling north of the Han River. Enemy tanks located on the southern outskirts of Seoul were taken under artillery fire with good results. (FECOM)(SECRET) C. U.S. IX Corps: The 24th U.S. Infantry Division patrolled and maintained defensive positions. 1st U.S. Cavalry Division repulsed slight probing attacks and maintained light contact.
