Weather: BY Clear throughout period with 7 miles visibility except locally in haze and smoke, Battle area temperature ranged from 30-65 degrees F. Forecast: Clear with 7 miles visibility except in early morning haze and smoke. Battle area temperatures will range from 28 to 63 degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Eneray Situation: Stiffening enemy resistance up to battalion strength encountered by IX and X Corps units during the period. One hundred thirty nine PW's captured by the 2d US Infantry Division represented elements of six different North Korean Divisions. Strong Communist forces including elements of the Third CCF Field Army are now believed available as strategic reserves in central Korea, immediately north of the 38th parallel. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND a. General: The occupation of Seoul continues without enemy opposition. Gains from 2 to 5 miles reported on the Eighth Army front as the offensive continues. UN troops have advanced to the Hongchon River line against spotty enemy resistance, IX Corps units continue the main effort. A double envelopment of Hongchon is underway. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: 1st ROK Division units occupied the southwest portion of Seoul unopposed. Elements patrolled through the northern out- skirts of the city and up to 5 miles northwest along the Seoul-Munsan highway, without enemy contact. A patrol to the vicinity 8 miles northeast of Kimpo encountered an estimated enemy company. 3d US Infantry Division elements are enroute to Seoul. The area east of the city, from the Han River north to the Seoul-Kuam highway and east to Kumgong, was patrolled without enemy contact. The 25th US Infantry Division with 1st Turkish Armed Forces Command attached, advanced without enemy opposition to positions north of the Seoul-Kaum highway on a general line from the vicinity of Kumgong northeast to a point 2 miles west of Kuam.
