The 3d and 5th ROK In- fantry Regiments remain in reserve in the vicinity of Hajinbu. 3d ROK Division: The 18th and 22d ROK Infantry Regiments advanced without serious enemy opposition to positions on line from 9 miles north to 11 miles northeast of Hajinbu. An estimated enemy battalion attacked the 3d ROK Division Engineer Battalion in positions approximately 10 miles northeast of Hajinbu. Air strikes forced the enemy to withdraw to the north and northeast. Elements of the 23₫ ROK Infantry Regiment relieved the 1st ROK Marine Regiment and maintained positions in the area 8 miles northeast of Hajinbu. (FECOM)(SECRET) f. I ROK Corps: The 1st ROK Infantry and ROK Cavalry Regiment of the Capitol ROK Division continued in previous positions and reported very light contact in the area northwest of Kangnung. The 26th ROK Infantry Regi- ment of the Capitol ROK Division, together with the 9th ROK Division, continue sweeping operations against the 10th North Korean Division in the area north of Yongsan. The 26th ROK Infantry Regiment reported that air and ground action against enemy groups in the area 7 miles east of Hajinbu resulted in an estimated 700 enemy killed and 17 captured. Six hundred enemy troops re- maining in this area are being engaged by elements of the 26th and 30th ROK Infantry Regiments. Farther east, elements of the 28th and 29th ROK Infan- try Regiments continue to operate against enemy groups in the area 10 miles north of Yongsan. An enemy force estimated at 1000 is reported surrounded in this vicinity and is being engaged by elements of the 9th ROK Division. In operations against the 10th North Korean Division during the period 14-17 March, total enemy casualties were estimated at 1498 killed and 265 captured. (FECOM) (SECRET) NAVY g. PRINCETON and VALLEY FORGE aircraft flew 331 sorties during the period, striking enemy targets along the battle line and in the vicinities of Yangdok, Iwon (40-19N, 128-37E), Tanchon (40-28N, 128-55E), Wonsan, and Songjin (40-41N, 129-12E). MISSOURI, OZBOURN, HOLLISTER, and THOMPSON conducted destruction and interdiction fire at Chongjin (41-46N, 129-49E). EVANS, MASSEY, KNOX, and O'BRIEN conducted harassing and illumination fire at Songjin. MISSOURI bombarded enemy installations near Chaho (40-12N, 128-38E). At Wonsan, MANCHESTER, LIND, ENGLISH, EVERTSEN, and other ships concentrated fire on Anbyon troop center, and also struck other enemy targets in the area. Shore intelligence reported 400 enemy casualties on 17 March and 8, 000 to 9, 000 casualties resulting from bombard- ment 15 March. WALKE conducted night harassing fire at Chumunjin.
