Weather: BY Broken to overcast middle and high clouds and widely scattered snow showers in the battle area. Visibility 7-10 miles except in haze and smoke. Battle area temperatures 30-50 degrees F. Forecast: Decreasing cloudiness becoming clear with unrestricted visibility. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Enemy resistance stiffened slightly in the central sector of the Eighth Army front. Determined enemy opposition halted the advance on the IX Corps right flank while strong contact was gained on the Corps left flank. Along the remainder of the Eighth Army front enemy contact ranged from light to none. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation GROUND a. General: Eighth Army activity generally consisted of readjusting and consolidating positions except in the IX Corps zone of operations. The 1st US Cavalry Division (IX Corps) advanced 5 miles on the Hongchon-Chuccher highway to positions 2 miles south of Chunchon, A Task Force thrust then advanced 5 miles north of Chunchon to a point 3 miles south of the 38th parallel. I US Corps: The 1st ROK Division maintained positions while patrols dispersed smail enemy groups north and northwest of Seoul. 3d US Infantry Division: The 15th US Infantry Regiment with the Belgian Battalion attached, moved to positions 5 miles northeast of Seoul without incident. The Philippine Battalion is now located 7 miles northeast of Seoul. 25th US Infantry Division: Elements of the 35th US Infantry Regiment closed in a new assembly area 6 miles southwest of Kuam. The 27th US Infantry Regiment patrolled without contact, while the Turkish Brigade maintained positions with light enemy contact. Considerable enemy activity was observed north of the 25th Division front including an estimated enemy battalion dug in 2 miles forward of present positions. (FECOM) (SECRET) 2006
