From 2100/27 (Korea) to 2100/28 (Korea) BY 1. Weather: Korean weather consisted of overcast clouds and rain. Bro- ken low and middle clouds became scattered at end of the period. Visi- bility 8 miles lowering to 1-3 miles in rain. Battle area temperatures ranged from 38 to 55 degrees F. Forecast for 29 March: Broken to scattered low clouds entire period. Visibility 10 miles. Battle area temperatures will range between 30 and 55 degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Resistance continued light except in the Chunchon sector. A four mile trench system 15 miles north of Uijongbu suggests ambush pre- parations. Enemy aircraft equipped with loudspeaker attempted to induce surrender of 24th and 1st Cavalry Division troops. Enemy build-up ob- served north of Chunchon. Anti-tank mines slow down 1st Marine Divi- sion. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND 8., General: The Eighth Army offensive continues. A 2d U.S. Infantry Division patrol ranged to the 38th Parallel in the vicinity of Pup- yong without significant contact. Five tanks disabled by enemy AT mines in the 1st Marine Division sector. ROK units on east coast are now 1 mile north of Yangyang. (FECOM(SECRET) b. I U.S. Corps: 1st ROK Division: No significant enemy con- tact reported as ROK units maintained and slightly adjusted positions. 3d U.S. Infantry Division: The 65th U.S. Infantry Regiment advanced 2 miles without enemy contact while the 15th U.S. Infantry Regiment remained in place with elements relieving left flank elements of the 187th Airborne RCT. The 187th Airborne RCT attacked against light resistance to posi- tions astride the Uijongbu-Sochon highway 7 miles south of Sochon. The 7th U.S. Infantry Regiment moved to blocking positions 6 miles north of Uijongbu. Air observed a trench system 4 miles long extending south from Sochon immediately least of the highway.
