1. Weather:
Korean weather consisted of scattered to broken low clouds
over all Korea during the night with broken to overcast low clouds in
the northwest clearing about noon. Visibility 10 miles, except 2-3 miles
in fog. Battle area temperatures ranged between 31 and 54 degrees F.
Forecast for 31 March: Increasing cloudiness, becoming overcast mid-
dle and high clouds. Visibility 8 miles, restricted to 5 miles in early
morning haze. Battle area temperatures will range between 38 and 56
degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Light enemy contact continued on the Eighth Army front.
Heaviest delaying action encountered northeast of Uijongbu and north of
Chunchon. Vehicle sightings during night of 29-30 March totaled 2, 048
of which 1, 202 moving south. (FECOM)(SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
GROUND
a. General: I and DX U.S. Corps units continued limited ob-
jective advance. No significant gains on the rest of Eighth Army front.
24th U.S. Infantry Division passing to I U.S. Corps control due to boun-
dary change. 187th Airborne RCT relieved and enroute to Taegu via
Suwon. The Turkish Brigade is out of the line and assembled 10 miles
northwest of Uijongbu. (FECOM)(SECRET
b. I.U.S. Corps: 1st ROK Division: No significant activity
other than a patrol clash on the north bank of the Imjin River. 3d U.S.
Infantry Division: 65th U.S. Infantry Regiment elements patrolled in
the area 10 miles northeast of Munsan without enemy contact. The 7th
U.S. Infantry Regiment advanced against moderate small arms fire to
positions 6 miles south of Sochon. 25th U.S. Infantry Division: The 24th
and 27th U.S. Infantry Regiments advanced unopposed to an area four
miles west-southwest of Changgo. The 35th U.S. Infantry Regiment,
attacking northeast along the Uijongbu=Changgo highway, advanced one
mile against an estimated two enemy companies. Approximately 5,000
enemy troops were reported astride the highway 5 miles northeast of
the 35th Infantry. (FECOM)(SECRET)
