1. Weather:
Scattered clouds over Korea with increasing cloudiness during the
morning of 5 April. Broken to overcast low clouds along west coast south
of Pyongyang. Haze restricted visibility to 3-5 miles. Battle area tem-
peratures ranged from 35-59 degrees F. Forecast: Low ceilings and
multilayered clouds increasing during the night of 5 April and morning of
B April. Intermittent rain with visibility 6 miles lowering to 1 mile in
rain Battle area temperatures will range from 10-50 degrees F. (FEAF)

2. Enemy Situation:
The strength and intensity of enemy resistance opposite the I and
IX US Corps sectors increased during the period. Heavier mortar and
small arms fire was encountered. Enemy probing attacks became more
aggressive. In the enemy rear area, reports indicate all railroad bridges
from Wonsan to Chorwon are being repaired. Heavy traffic movement con-
tinues with 1621 vehicles sighted during the night of 4-5 April of which 802

3. United Nations Situation:
GROUND
2 General: I US Corps units continue the attack north of the 38th
parallel in the zone east of the Uijongbu-Chorwon highway. IX Corps units
attacked to positions generally on the parallel except on the right flank.
Elements of the 2d and 7th US Infantry Divisions relieved the 1st US Ma-
rine Division. In the east coast sector, ROK units continued the advance to
the north and west without serious opposition. (FECOM) (SECRET)
b. I US Corps: 1st ROK Division elements patrolled from positions
in the vicinity of Munsan without enemy contact. 7th US Infantry Regiment
patrols gained strong enemy contact along the highway 2 miles north of So-
chon. The 25th US Infantry Division attacked against light to moderate re-
sistance to positions 2 miles north of the 38th parallel. Enemy probing attacks
were repulsed with no loss of ground. The 24th US Infantry Division attacking
on the right flank of the 25th Division, in the area 10 miles northeast of Chang-
go, advanced approximately 2 miles. Enemy resistance varied from light to
moderate and consisted of small arms and mortar fire. A 24th Division tank-
engineer Task Force ranged 5 miles north of the parallel in theDivision sector,
encountering heavy mortar and small arms fire enroute. (FECOM) (SECRET)
