Weather: Generally clear in the extreme north with an overcast of high clouds south of 37 degrees. Scattered middle clouds in central and south Korea, becoming broken and overcast, Intermittent light rain during the early morning in southeast coastal area. Battle area temperatures ranged from 40-60 degrees F. Forecast: Multilayered clouds, intermittent light rain and low visibility in central and south Korea during the night and morning; improving during the day with ceilings and visibility becoming unrestricted. Battle area temperatures will range from 46-60 degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Resistance stiffened along a 56 mile sector of the front from Sochon to Pupyong. Both flanks remained quiet. Heaviest opposition encountered by the 1st U. S. Cavalry Division in the area south of Hwachon, The number of minefields employed by the enemy increases daily. Vehicle count dropped to 1,041 with traffic pattern fairly evenly distributed, including east coast routes. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND a. General: UN Forces maintain the initiative as the Eighth Army offensive continues, Limited advances made in the central sector, (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: No significant activity reported in the Corps sector west of the Uijonbu-Chorwon highway. 25th US infantry Division units advanced approximately 2 miles against light to moderate enemy resistance. Elements of the Turkish Brigade relieved the 27th US Infantry Regiment on 6 April. 24th US Infantry Division units attacking north of the 38th parallel 12 miles northeast of Changgo encountered determined resistance which involved hand-to-hand fighting in the seizure of two hills. At the close of the period regimental positions were being adjusted in an area 11 miles south of Karogae. (FECOM) (SECRET)
