Weather: Overcast middle and high clouds with scattered low clouds becom- ing overcast over all Korea. Visibility 7 miles lowering to 1-3 miles in rain. Battle area temperatures 43 to 48 degreesF. Forecast: Overcast low, middle and high clouds with visibility 2-4 miles in rain becoming 8 miles after frontal passage. Battle area temperatures 40 to 52 degrees F (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Enemy resistance generally consisted of scattered rear guard actions offering moderate to no opposition. However, stiff delaying action was encountered in Hwachon Reservoir sector. Yon chon-Chorwon highway heavily mined, with enemy traffic utilizing adjacent stream beds. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND a. General: All UN Divisions and Brigades have units across the 38th parallel with the exception of the 1st ROK Division on the extreme left flank. The Task Force driving on the Hwachon Reservoir Dam now has troops on both sides of the reservoir entrance 1, 000 yards south of the dam. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: The 1st ROX Division dispatched patrols across the Imjin River and reported only light enemy contact. 3d U.S. Infantry Division units with the 29th United Kingdom Brigade attached, advanced 3 miles against light resistance to positions 5 miles north and northwest of Sochon. Air reports the Yongehon-Chorwon road heavily mined, with enemy traffic following stream beds in the area. 25th US Infantry Division: The attached Turkish Brigade advanced a miles on the Division left flank to posi- tions 6 miles northeast of Sochon against sporadic mortar fire. The 5th Ranger Company is operating 3 miles forward of Division front line positions. 4
