1. Situation in Brief:
GROUND
U.N. Forces deployed along the western portion of the Korean front
fought local actions, while ROK Forces on the east coast moved closer to
northern objectives. Elements of the 1st U. S. Cavalry Division seized
the city of Kaesong. The 6th ROK Division, despite considerable resistance,
succeeded in seizing Hwachon, while the 8th ROK Division entered Yonchon.
Leading elements of the 3d ROK Division were last reported in the village
of Sinjang, 18 airline miles southeast of Wonsan. (FECOM) (SECRET).
NAVY
Naval surface and air forces continued patrolling all Korean waters
with no enemy activity reported. Naval air flew 135 sorties on 7 October.

AIR
On 7 October, FEAF flew 549 effective sorties of which 296 were
combat. Combat Cargo Command's 209 sorties lifted 1010 tons, including
923 passengers, 326 evacuees, and 883 tons of freight. On 8 October,
inclement weather forces some sorties to attack secondary targets.

2. Weather:
Scattered low clouds in all areas, becoming scattered to broken
in southern sectors, and scattered in the northwest sector. Visibility 3
to 8 miles. Forecast: Broken to overcast low clouds with intermittent
rain in north Korea, moving into south Korea during the day. (FEAF)
