Weather: Broken to overcast low, middle and high clouds clearing rapidly during the night with visibility increasing to 10 miles. Temperatures 36- 50 degrees F. Forecast Clear to scattered low clouds becoming broken to overcast middle and high clouds by 1200/13 (KT). Visibility 7-9 miles except in battle area smoke. Temperatures 35-53 degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Resistance stiffened in the west central sector opposite I Corps right flank, The enemy continues to stubbornly defend the approaches to the Hwachon Reservoir Dam. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND a. General: UN troops continued the limited objective offensive with advances up to 3 miles reported in I Corps sector. No progress made in the Hwachon Reservoir Dam attack. East and west flank units adjusted positions and patrolled. A 9th ROK Division patrol entered Kansong (east coast) without enemy contact. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: 1st ROK Division units patrolled from previous positions with light enemy contact. 3d US Infantry Division: Right flank elements advanced approximately 1 mile against moderate to heavy resistance offered by an estimated enemy regiment. Remainder of the division patrolled without contact. The 25th US Infantry Division gained 2 miles against heavy enemy resistance in the area 12 miles south of Chorwon. The attached Turkish Brigade engaged and defeated an estimated enemy battalion in hand-to-hand fighting. 24th US Infantry Division units attacking against light to heavy resistance advanced up to 3 miles in the area 14 miles sontheast of Chorwon.
