Weather: North Korea: High scattered clouds and broken to overcast middle clouds with scattered low clouds. Central Korea: Scattered high and middle clouds with scattered low clouds late in the period. Visibility: 6 to 8 miles. Forecast: Broken to overcast high and middle clouds over all Korea with broken to overcast low clouds in the north. Visibility 6 to 8 miles. Temperatures 55 to 74 degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Hostile resistance continued stubborn south of Chorwon and Kumhwa and along the Hwachon - Kumhwa road. Enemy groups of up to regimental size were engaged in these sectors, and several determined but unsuccess- ful counterattacks, with heavy mortar and artillery fire, were hurled at UN positions. Moderate to heavy enemy resistance was encountered from the Hwachon Reservoir eastward to the coast. Hostile groups offered stiffening resistance to friendly patrols across the Imjin River on the extreme west flank. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND: a. General: UN attacking forces made bitterly contested gains across the front, reaching positions 9 miles south of Chorwon in the I US Corps sector and 4 miles north of Hwachon in the IX US Corps sector. Other friendly advances were made north and northeast of Inje. ROK forces have reached positions 12 miles north of Kansong along the east coast.
