Weather: Scattered to overcast low, middle, and high clouds during the period. Visibility 6 to 10 miles. Temperatures 50 to 80 degrees F. Forecast: Broken middle and low clouds over all Korea. Visibility 8 miles lowering to 1 mile in haze and fog. Temperatures 56 to 78 degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Enemy rear guard resistance decreased south of Chorwon and Kumhwa at the close of the period, but continued stubborn north of Hwachon and east of the Hwachon Reservoir. Hostile defenses along the Hwachon - Kumhwa road could not be dislodged by friendly attacks. Enemy counterattacks during the period failed to penetrate UN lines. There was no significant activity on the left flank, along the Imjin River, or in the I ROK Corps sec- tor along the east coast. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND a. General: UN forces continued to attack, reaching positions less than 2 miles south of Chorwon and Kumhwa., with tank patrols probing farther north. In the central sectors, 3 mile gains were made from posi- tions north of Hwachon, but smaller advances were made east of the reser- voir in heavy fighting.
