Weather: Broken to overcast low, middle, and high clouds. Visibility 1 mile, improving to 10 miles. Forecast: Broken low and middle clouds, with scattered thunderstorms. Visibility six to eight miles. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Small hostile groups continued to probe friendly positions and offered light to moderate resistance in numerous patrol clashes across the front. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND: a. General: UN forces in the IX Corps sector launched a limited-objective attack and gained up to two miles in the area south of Kumsong. Friendly patrols continued to probe hostile positions across the front, reaching to within three miles of Pyonggang in the I Corps zone. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: 1st ROK Division patrols engaged small hostile groups across the Imjin River south and east of Kaesong. A platoon-strength enemy probing attack northwest of Yonchon was re- pulsed by 1st US Cavalry Division units. Cavalry patrols encountered squad- to platoon-size groups in the same area. Elements of the 3d US Infantry Division repulsed an attack by two squads near Kumhwa, and patrolled northwest of Kumhwa and to within three miles of Pyonggang against small hostile groups. A friendly tank was damaged by enemy mines near the Chorwon=Pyonggang Railroad, six miles north of Chorwon.
