NAVY f. Naval and Marine aircraft flew a total of 461 sorties, of which 37 were from SICILY on the west coast, 252 from BOXER and BON HOMME RICHARD on the east coast, 27 by Patrons, and 145 by shore-based USMC. West coast carrier aircraft struck military targets in the Chinnampo area and at Ongjin. Aircraft from east coast carriers struck enemy targets along the coast from Wonsan to north of Kilchu. (COMNAVFE) (SECRET) g. On the east coast, TOLEDO and VAN GALEN at Chongjin, and MOORE at Songjin fired on transportation facilities and other military targets. HOPEWELL and UHLMANN bombarded gun positions and troop con- centrations at Wonsan, killing an estimated 50 troops. KIDD fired on gun positions and other targets near the bombline. On the west coast, CARDIGAN BAY, HAWEA, and MURCHI- SON bombarded 6 shore areas along the Han River Estuary and shelled a total of 1, 700 troops in 3 areas with no results assessed or reported. (COMNAV- FE) (SECRET) AIR i. On 14 August, UN aircraft under FEAF control (less USMC) flew 879 sorties. Four hundred ninety-six combat sorties were flown, of which 32 were by RAAF and 30 by SAAF aircraft. All UN aircraft under FEAF control flew 4 close support, 353 armed reconnaissance, 104 counter air, 38 light bomber, and 70 night intruder sorties. The 315th Air Division flew 233 sorties, airlifting 3, 428 passengers, 144 evacuees, and 333 tons of freight. (FEAF) (SECRET) j. On 15 August, the Bomber Command stood down. One aircraft was scheduled for a night leaflet mission. (FEAF) (SECRET) k.
