Forecast: Broken middle and high clouds with scattered to broken low clouds. All clouds to become scattered by early morning. Visibility generally 3-5 miles in haze and light fog improving to unrestricted. Maximum tempera- ture 62 degrees, minimum 38 degrees. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Company and battalion-sized groups opposed UN advances in the western sector northwest of Yonchon, and in the east-central sector north- west and northeast of Yanggu. Action increased at the end of the period southeast of Kumsong in the central sector, where UN forces were engaged with counterattacking company- and battalion=strength groups. Mortar and artillery continued heavy against 1st US Cavalry Division positions as 3, 557 rounds fell during the period. Mines and bangalore torpedoes dam- aged 11 UN tanks in the Kunhwa-Kuzsong area. The preliminary total of vehicle sightings for the period 25-28 October is 10g 936, of which 7, 162 were southbound, The adjusted total for 27-28 October is 5, 151, of which 3, 718 were southbound, This is a new record high for one day. General: UN forces in the east-central sector launched limited attacks northwest and northeast of Yanggu and advanced up to 2,000 yards against entrenched company- and battalion-size groups. Southeast of Kumsong, attacking UN elements were heavily engaged with company.. and battalion-size groups. UN tank patrols probed up to one-half mile north of Kumsong, destroying hostile bunker positions and inflicting personnel casualties. In the western sector, 1st US Cavalry Division units were en- gaged with company- and battalion-size groups, but action decreased as the period closed. (FECOM) (SECRET)
