SECRE II b. I US Corps: Elements of the 1st ROK, 1st British Commonwealth, 1st US Cavalry, and 9th ROK Divisions continued to patrol against squad- to company-size groups across the Corps front. Units of the 1st British Com- monwealth Division repulsed two platoon=strength attacks west of Yonchon and received 195 rounds of enemy mortar and artillery fire. Northwest of Yonchon, outpost elements of the 1st US Cavalry Division repulsed a platoon=strength attack at 020235(KT). Then, following a 200-round artillery barrage, the enemy attacked again in two-platoon strength at 020610 (KT) and was repulsed. A total of 539 rounds of hostile mortar and artillery fire fell in the Division sector during the period. (FECOM) (SECRET) C. IX US Corps: Left flank units of the 25th US Infantry Division repulsed a squad-size probing attack south of Pyonggang. Patrols from the 2d ROK Division dispersed squad-size groups southwest of Kumsong. Tank and in- fantry patrols from the 24th US Infantry Division probed up to three miles northeast and six miles east of Kumsong, engaging squad- to platoon-size groups. One tank was lost to an enemy mine two miles east of Kumsong. On the Corps right flank, elements of the 6th ROK Division received an attack by a reinforced company at 012340(KT). The action continued at 020900(KT), with the enemy strength estimated at two companies. Outpost elements received 200 rounds of artillery fire, closely followed by a platoon=strength attack which was repulsed. Other outpost elements repulsed an attack by a group of undeter- mined size, but a platoon-strength hostile probing attack was continuing on the morning of 2 November. All of the enemy attacks took place in the area about eight miles southeast of Kumsong. (FECOM) (SECRET) d. X US Corps: Patrols from the 8th ROK Division encountered squad- to company-size groups between the Yanggu-Marhwi road and the Fukhan River. Enemy anti-personnel mines, the number not reported, were encountered near the Division left flank. Tank and infantry patrols from the 7th US Infantry Division continued to probe northward in the area east of the Yanggu-Marhwi road, engaging squad- to platoon-size groups. One friendly tank was destroyed and one damaged during the period. A squad-size hostile probing attack was repulsed. An estimated 232 rounds of artillery and 52 rounds of mortar fire fell in the Division sector. Units of the 3d ROK Division repulsed four squad- and platoon-size probing attacks northwest of Sohwa. Division patrols engaged squad- and platoon-size groups. Farther east, patrols from the 1st US Marine Division engaged squad- and platoon-size groups some of which were dug-in. An estimated 251 rounds of artillery fire fell on Division positions. (FECOM) (SECRET)
