Weather: Weather for the period 9-12 November was generally fair consisting of scattered low and middle clouds over most of Korea. For the first part of the period, visibility was variable from 1 to 6 miles in light rain and snow, gradually clearing, resulting in scattered cloudiness with visibility from 3 to 5 miles with fog along the least coast. Enemy Situation: Heaviest activity was in the sector of the 3d ROK Division, northwest of Schwa in the east-central sector, where a total of 19 probing attacks - the largest by battalion-strength groups were made during the four-day period. Company=strength attacks forced slight UN withdrawals south of Kumsong and just east of the Pukhan River early in the period. By 10 Nov ember, action had decreased to patrol clashes and minor preving attacks all across the front. Mortar and artillery fire continued heavy against the 1st US Cavalry Division northwest of Yonchon and increased against the 3d ROK Divi- sion. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for 8-12 November is 3, 700, of which 2,459 were southbound. The 12th CCF Array has moved into the line in the vicinity of Kumsong, in the IX US Corps sector. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN forces northwest of Sohwa repulsed numerous enemy probing attacks, and counterattacked after an initial withdrawal east of the Pukhan River, advancing about 1, ,000 meters beyond previous positions. Divisions on the I US Corps front conducted raiding missions early in the period, engaging groups up to battalion size. A tank-infantry patrol from the 24th US Infantry Division advanced to the area two to three miles northeast of Kumsong on 9 November. UN forces continued to patrol against scattered enemy groups as the period closed. The Belgian Battalion, attached to the 3d US Infantry Division, moved into an assembly area northeast of Uijongou.
