Enemy Situation: The enemy continued to make light probing attacks against UN positions, forcing one outpost to withdraw northwest of Chorwon. Heavy mortar and artillery fire fell on a 3d US Division patrol northwest of Yonchon. The ad- justed total of vehicle sightings for 10-11 December is 600, of which 466 were southbound, (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN patrols engaged scattered hostile groups of up to company size across the front. Artillery was very active against numerous personnel, gun, and supply targets and against enemy fortified positions. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: Attacking elements of the 1st ROK Division en- gaged an enemy company eight miles southeast of Kaesong on the morning of 12 December; the attack is continuing. A patrol from the 1st British Common- wealth Division dispersed an undetermined number of enemy nine miles west of Yonchon. Farther north, patrols from the 3d US Infantry Division engaged several groups of undetermined size northwest of Yonchon, The enemy SP guns, reported on 11 December to be in the Division sector, are now believed to have been recoilless rifles. Five hundred sixty rounds of enemy mortar and artillery fire fell on one 3d US Division patrol. Division artillery fired on several enemy groups of squad- to company-strength. A 9th ROK Division outpost was forced to withdraw on the night of 11 December after an attack by two enemy platoons six miles northwest of Chorwon. Friendly patrols engaged groups of undetermined size in the same area, (FECOM) (SECRET) Security Information
