Weather: A weak trough passed through central Korea, with accompanying scattered to broken clouds, snow, and rain showers. Visibility unrestricted. Maximum temperature 45 degrees; minimum 25. Forecast: Scattered low and middle clouds during early morning, with visibility lowering along west coast to 2-4 miles in fog. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: The enemy made four small probing attacks against UN positions during the period. Several hostile groups of up to company size were observed in the western sector north of Munsan and in the central sector east of Kumsong. Eight miles west of Chorwon, a Yak-9 aircraft was observed at 131130 (KT), flying from behind the UN MLR in a northerly direction, A red star was painted on the wing and fuselage. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for 12-13 December is 528, of which 296 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN patrols continued to engage scattered small groups across the front. A friendly tank patrol probed northward in the Kumhwa area. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: Patrols from the 1st ROK, 3d US, and 9th ROK Divisions engaged squad- to company-size groups in their respective sectors. The 1st British Commonwealth Division had no contact with the enemy, al- though Division artillery fired on several hostile groups of up to 200 troops in size. 9th ROK Division units repulsed a platoon-strength attack northwest of Chorwon. Two hundred ten rounds of enemy mortar and artillery fire fell on a 1st ROK Division patrol north of Munsan.
