1. Weather:
During the period 151800-161800 (KT) weather deteriorated from north
to south with a weak-trough movement, clearing through Korea by 161200
(KT). Fog restricted visibility in central Korea from 0700 to 1100 (KT).
Battle area temperature ranged from 35 degrees to 18 degrees. The next
24-hour forecast shows: Clear, becoming scattered clouds by 1200 (KT);
visibility 1 to 3 miles in fog and smoke through central and north valleys,
0400 to 1100 (KT); and battle area temperatures 30 degrees maximum to 15
degrees minimum. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Five probing attacks were made against UN positions during the period,
the largest of which was by a company-strength group against the 3d ROK
Division east of Kumsong. Artillery and mortar fire continued moderate.
The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for 14-15 January is 611, of which
380 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
ARMY:
a. General; UN forces repulsed enemy probing attacks and
counterattacked north of Yanggu to restore a position from which they had
previously withdrawn. An ROK raiding patrol engaged two enemy companies
northeast of Panmunjom. The 5th ROK Division assumed responsibility for
the 11th ROK Division sector in the I ROK Corps effective 130600 (KT).
