1. Weather:
Cold front moved rapidly through all Korea. Multilayered clouds
along front. Visibility restricted to 1 to 3 miles at all bases. Maximum
battle area temperature 64 degrees, minimum 15 degrees. Forecast:
Clear with occasional scattered low clouds. Visibility restricted to 3
miles during early morning. Maximum temperature 30 degrees, mini-
mum 10 degrees. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Enemy forces continued sporadic probing attacks, the largest being
of two platoon size. Across the front, scattered generally light opposi-
tion to UN patrol operations and tank raiding elements was offered by groups
ranging up to company size. Enemy minefields destroyed 1 friendly tank
and damaged 11 others (three of which were later destroyed by friendly
artillery fire) during the period. Light to moderate enemy mortar and
artillery fire was received, especially in the east-central and eastern sec-
tors. On 2 March, approximately 30 percent of the artillery fire received
in the east-central and eastern sectors consisted of airburst projectiles
scattering propaganda leaflets. At 0700 (KT) on 2 March, 2 unidentified
aircraft strafed and bombed the MSR and rear area in the 40th US Division
sector, 14 miles south of Kumsong. Friendly casualties reported: 1 KIA,
1 MIA. Twenty-five minutes prior to this attack, an undetermined number
of unidentified aircraft bombed the MSR five miles farther north, resulting
in two friendly casualties and three vehicles damaged. The adjusted total
of vehicle sightings for the period 28 February-2 March is 7,024, of which
4, 627 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
ARMY:
a. General: UN forces continued aggressive patrol operations
across the army front and executed several tank-infantry raiding missions
in the western and west-central sectors. Minor enemy probing attacks were
repulsed. Enemy artillery pieces and positions in the west-central sector
were engaged by friendly artillery during 29 February at approximately 24
