1. Weather:
Broken to overcast high and middle clouds with scattered low
clouds along the west coast, and broken low clouds in central Korea.
Visibility six miles lowering to one mile in rain. Forecast:
Multilayered clouds with ceilings of 2,000 feet. Visibility one to three
miles lifting to five miles during the period. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Hostile groups of company- to battalion-strength continued to offer
stubborn resistance to UN advances in the central and east-central sectors
Several strong hostile counterattacks were made east of Kumhwa and north
of Yanggu, forcing some friendly withdrawal. Heavily armed enemy
companies were observed in the area north of Yonchon, near the Yonchon-
Ichon road. Moderate enemy mortar and artillery fire fell on friendly
positions in the X US Corp area. Air observed 2g 980 enemy vehicles,
of which 1, 603 were moving south. (FECOM) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
GROUND:
a. General: UN forces continued to attack toward high ground
positions north of Yanggu and north of Sohwa, in the east-central sector.
Slight advances were made in heavy fighting. The 34th US Infantry Regiment
has been assigned to the 8th US Army and further attached to the 25th US
Infantry Division for operational control. (FECOM) (SECRET)
