Situation in Brief: GROUND In the 25th U.S. Infantry Division sector, the 3d battalion, 27th US RCT, repulsed 3 enemy attacks during the night of 8-9 September, and seized high ground on the front of the 24th US RCT the following morning. Elements of the 5th US RCT repelled a coordinated frontal and rear attack. The 38th US RCT repulsed an attack by 2 battalions in the 2d US Infantry Division sector by midnight of 8 September. In the sector of the 1st US Cavalry Division, an estimated battalion attacked elements of the 7th US Cavalry KCT, but was repulsed with no loss of position. An estimated regiment counterattacked the 8th US Cavalry RCT on 8 September 1950, 10 miles north of Taegu, causing loss of an important hill, and the withdrawal of the right flank 3 miles southward. An attack by the 8th RCT, on 9 September, is making no progress. The 15th ROK Regiment on the left of the 1st ROK Division sector was under heavy enemy pressure throughout 8 September, while the remainder of the 1st and 6th ROK Divisions' front remained quiet. Elements of the 8th ROK Division are engaging the enemy in the Yongchon area, but results are unreported. The 21st US RCT continued to advance to a general line from 3 to 6 miles northwest Kyongju, repulsing 2 small counterattacks during the night of 8-9 September. An enemy attack against the 19th US RCT 6 miles north of Kyongju made slight gains. The 3d battalion (reinforced), 9th US RCT, continued defense of Yonil airfield, while ROK forces in the Pohang area were forced to with draw slightly under enemy attack. (FECOM) (SECRET) NAVY Gunfire from ships on the east coast patrol shelled enemy troups and positions in the Pohang area, assisting interdiction of enemy advances. Similar fire support was furnished the 25th US Infantry Division in the southern sector. British ships patrolled the west coast, while aircraft from Badoeng Strait and Sicily struck enemy transportation facilities in rear areas.
