Weather: Scattered multilayered clouds and rain. Visibility restricted to 1 to 3 miles in haze and fog. Maximum battle area temperature 45 degrees, minimum 22 degrees. Forecast: Scattered low clouds, becoming overcast with middle, and high broken clouds. Visibility restricted to 2 to 5 miles in haze. Maximum battle area temperature 38 degrees, minimum 20 degrees. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Two small enemy groups probed UN positions on the western front. Elsewhere along the battle line, squad- and platoon-strength enemy groups intercepted UN patrols. Light artillery fire was directed against several UN Divisions across the front, and moderate to heavy fire fell in the east-central sector. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for 12-13 March is 351, of which 233 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN forces continued to patrol across the front, encountering squad- and platoon=strength enemy groups The Netherlands Battalion relieved elements of the 38th Regiment at the front. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: The 1st ROK and 1st British Commonwealth Divisions reported no contact with the enemy in their sectors. One hundred fourteen rounds of mortar and artillery fire fell in the 1st ROK Division sector; one hundred twenty=seven rounds in the 1st British Commonwealth Division sector. An attack by a reinforced enemy platoon forced outpost positions of the 3d US Division to withdraw eight miles west of Yonchon. A later counterattack restored the position. Division patrols encountered two small-size enemy groups. One hundred ninety-two rounds of mortar and artillery fire fell in the Division sector. An enemy squad probed outpost positions of the 45th US Division 10 miles west of Chorwon. There was no contact with the enemy in the 9th ROK Division sector.
