About two hours of low scattered clouds with rain was associated with front. Broken low clouds and snow occurred along the East coast. Visibility restricted to 1-3 miles in rain and snow. Maximum battle area temperature 42 degrees, minimum 26 degrees. Forecast: Scattered, low and high broken clouds. Visibility restricted to 3-5 miles in rain and snow. Maximum battle area temperature 50 degrees, mini- mum 27 degrees. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Enemy activity increased slightly over the past 3 days, with a total of 11 probing attacks reported during the period. The heaviest activity was in the western sector, where two company=strength and two platoon=strength probing attacks were reported. Two platoon=strength and several squad-strength probes were also launched against the eastern sector. Light artillery fire fell on several division sectors across the front. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for the period 20-23 March is 4, 698, of which 3, 437 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation; ARMY: ao General: UN forces patrolled aggressively across the front, en- countering groups of squad to company strength. Heaviest patrol action was in the 45th Division sector west of Chorwon and in the sector of the 3d ROK Division least of the Pukhan River. Company= and platoon-strength enemy probing attacks were repulsed on the western and eastern sectors of the front. The 1st, the Cavalry and the 26th Regiments of the Capitol ROK Division reverted to parental control on 23 March. On this same date the Division passed from operational control of IX US Corps to Task Force Paik and assumed responsibility for the sectors of the front held by the 1st and Cavalry Regiments. The 10th and 16th Regiments of the 8th ROK Division reverted to operational control of their parent unit effective 23 March and assumed responsibility for the sector of the front held by the 1st US Marine Division. The 1st Marine Division (minus) is now located in an assembly area in the vicinity of Uijongbu with the 5th and 7th Regiments en route to join the parent unit. (FECOM) (SECRET)
